'Gender Equality Policy Expert Library, Here' is an Larchiveum (library+archive+museum) not just an library. In other words, it has a characteristic of curating showing controlled books and data to make people feel easier to approach the contents that library has. We need to find a method to show the way how data of Gender equality policies and books are collected and filed up and also selecting opportune data. Main point we focused when we plan spaces is 'the way books and data looks'. Create scenery of books not only by putting them on a shelf but also showing covers of it, exhibiting them opens and putting them continuously.
For this, designed book shelves that gradually growing from the center to side are placed. continued shelves became chair, desk, display, bookshelves on the wall or when they grouped together it becomes a reading place. Not just planing a space by wall, set a smallest unit of reading furniture and make spaces by grouping them little by little.
Likewise, the history of 'Gender equality' has continued 'to here' and will continue 'from here', connected shelves shows the flow of time. We hope that reading on the desk which is a continuity of shelf(time) can be an act of remembering history of gender quality and remaining a record on archive.
‘성 평등 도서관, 여기’는 일반적인 도서관이 아니라 라키비움(library+archive+museum)이다. 즉 도서관이 가지고 있는 콘텐츠가 적극적으로 시민에게 다가갈 수 있도록, 책과 자료를 관장해서 보여주는[큐레이팅하는] 성격을 띤다. 성 평등 관련된 정책 자료와 책이 모이고 쌓이는 방식은 물론, 시의 적절하게 자료를 선별해서 보여주는 방법이 필요했다. 공간을 계획하면서 중점에 둔 것도, 책과 자료가 ‘보여 지는 방식’이다. 책등 방향으로 자료를 꽂는 것은 물론, 책 표지를 내세우기도 하고, 펼쳐서 전시하고, 연속적으로 자료를 놓아서 책의 경관을 만들도록 하였다.
이를 위해 도서관 가운데서 사방으로 조금씩 자라나는 책장을 두었다. 연속된 책장은 의자가 되고, 책상이 되고, 전시대가 되고, 벽 서가가 되고, 혹은 책장끼리 모둠을 이루어 가운데에 책 읽는 자리를 둔다. 벽을 치고, 공간을 구획하는 방식으로 계획하는 것이 아니라, 가장 작은 단위인 책을 읽는 가구가 조금씩 모여서 공간을 모둠해서 만들어가는 방식으로 계획하였다.
‘성 평등’의 역사가 여기‘까지’ 연속되어 왔고, 또 여기‘서부터’ 계속 이어나가는 것처럼, 이어지는 책장은 시간의 흐름을 보여준다. 책장[시간]의 연속인 책상에서 책을 읽는 것 자체도 (성평등의) 역사를 기억하고, 아카이브에 하나의 기록을 남기는 행위가 되길 바란다.
