Introduction

Architectural details for waterproof are also elements of creating sensory experiences. As buildings become larger and more versatile, weather-related architectural details are replaced by mechanical installations, so people can’t experience the weather. The sense of climate tends to disappear. The ‘rain chain’ is an architectural element that collects rain falling on the roof and flows it to the floor. It has a practical and crafty character, such as connecting a small glass to a chain so that the water on the roof overflows and runs through the glass. Raindrops become streams of water, and flowing streams of water make a sound. A rain chain is a small device in which architecture embraces change rather than confronting the climate and amplifying the sense of the weather. The architectural installation Rain Chain Forest manipulates this rain chain. It is a work that reveals the presence of rain through craftsmanship. We would like to explore the sensual relationship between rain, architecture, and the people in it.
