The National Museum of Modern Art in Italy held a competition that suggests "Scenario of New Habitation" using the material of Alcantara which is an international textile company. Young designers under 35 years old from 8 countries are selected with portfolio evaluations and we participated as one of them.
Alcantara is an international textile company that develops new functional material taking over the tradition of Italian textile industry. Fabric from this company can be used in various way such as interior, furniture, clothes and even for car. Because of the special surface treatment, it's cool in summer and warm in winter.
The topic of this exhibition was suggesting a portable installation can possess public space as private space in pastoral stage with special fabric of Alcantara. So, we proposes Im mersing in to fabric: Bathing in the park.
The most private behavior taking in home is a bath. Bathing in the Park is a symbolic experience of appropriating public space as a private space extremely. Because fabric can't against compressive force, used sagging of fabric to make surrounding space. Fix Layered fabrics and to bench and sag it. Then, gaps are made between fabric and it surrounds people who is sitting on the bench. If people sit in the middle of these layered and waved fabric, they feels like they are in cool bath.
이태리 국립 현대 미술관은 다국적 섬유기업인 알칸타라의 소재를 이용하여 “새로운 거주의 시나리오”를 제안하도록 하는 공모를 진행하였다. 포트폴리오 심사를 통해서 세계 8개국에서 35세 이하 젊은 디자이너를 선정하였고 그 중 한 팀으로 전시에 참여하게 되었다.
알칸타라는 이태리 섬유산업의 전통을 이어받아 새로운 성능의 소재를 개발하는 다국적 섬유기업이다. 이 곳에서 제작하는 천은 인테리어, 가구, 자동차, 의류 등 수많은 분야에 이용가능하다. 특수한 표면 처리로 여름에 시원하고 겨울에는 따뜻한 특성이있다.
이 전시의 주제는 이탈리아의 특수천 Alcantara를 이용하여서 유목의 시대에 공공의 장소를 사적으로 거주하는 이동가능한 장치를 제안하는 것이었다. 주어진 대상은 공원의 벤치였고, 이에 ‹Im mersing in to fabric: Bathing in the park›를 제안했다.
가정에서 하는 가장 사적인 행위는 목욕이다.공원에서 목욕하기는 공공장소를 사적인 장소로 극단적으로 전유하는 것에 대한 상징적 경험이다. 아무런 압축력에 저항하지 못하는 섬유만을 이용해서 위요된 공간을 만들어내기 위해서 천 특유의 처짐을 이용하였다. 이동시에 포개져있는 천을 벤치에 공정시킨 후 늘어뜰이면 천사이에 간격이 생겨 벤치에 앉은 사람을 감싸는 방식이다. 겹쳐서 굴곡을 이루며 늘어뜨려진 패브릭 속에 앉아 있으면 마치 시원한 목욕물에 입수하는 듯한 느낌을 주도록 했다.
