Paju Book city 2nd phase

Different to Paju 1^st Book City which was centering publishing and printing companies, Paju 2^nd Book City is created with movie and media companies. Paju M Studio is planed for studio, office and dormitory for video special effects company. Book City has a rule that arrangement, material, type of open space and the other point of the building have to be a part of the city under the basic direction that buildings make scenery of the city by getting together.

Triangular lot

On the masterplan of Paju 2^nd Book City, there are two Triangular lots. M Studio located one of them.  The Shape of the lot is the most important condition as itself because most of the other lots are connected into quadrangle. In contrast to all the other lots are facing a road at one side or two roads at the right angle, at the Triangular lot, Two main road are crossing at a sharp angle on a corner of the lot. To deal with the bad condition that is hard to find frontality from any side of approaching direction to the lot, building is placed in the shape of semicircle. Each floor has same type of floor plans but the volume of it is growing gradually to follow the condition of the lot simply. By this way, the building can expose it’s own pure shape and volume to city.

In the case of façade that main roads intersect at a sharp angle, we applied the movement and flow of eyes moving from left to right and right to left. Preserved the feeling of the mass by planning long horizontal window and terrace following curved side and bricks for external wall finishing screened gradually and becoming handrail of terrace or double skin covering window. It was possible because of the characteristic of the inside space of the building for equipment of video special effects and test of it. As a result, M studio shows an attitude dealing with the city by exposing only the shape of it and separating the boundary of inside and outside.
